　コンピューターによる全文解析でベストセラーが予測できる、と主張する書籍が近々米国で出版されます。出版関係者にとって大変興味深い本ですが、書籍がまだ出ていない現時点ですでに賛否両論を巻き起こしています。
 
　ベストセラーの秘密をつかんだという書籍は、9月20日にセント・マーティンズ社から出版される『ベストセラー・コード』です。デジタル人文学の専門家でネブラスカ大学のマシュー・ジョッカー教授と、ライターのジョディ・アーチャー氏が共著した書籍です。
 
　著者たちが挑んだのは、全文解析という技術です。現在のベ
ストセラー・リストから、トーンやムード、話題、スタイルを読み取り、読者の思考や願望をアルゴリズム化し、原稿と対照してスコア化するという手法です。技術的な詳細は不明ですが、記事内では大手書店チェーンの発注予約状況からベストセラーを予測するのと同程度の有効性があっても不思議ではないとしています。
 
すでに書店・書評用のコピーが出回っており、有識者らが賛否両論のコメントを残しています。

It turns out that big Japanese publishers such as Koudansha Ltd. and Shogakukan Ltd. will provide their works to “Kindle Unlimited”, the all-you-can-read service Amazon Japan plans to launch in August. Although they first launched with a focus on old works featuring books and comics, they plan to provide popular books and new books in the near future. Currently, some of the all-you-can-read services in Japan mainly provide magazines. However, Amazon’s service plans to provide mainly books and comics. However these services haven’t become as popular as initially envisioned because there are only a few new books and comics featured on their lineup.
Thus, it’s expected that Amazon Japan ratches up the provision of these new books and comics in order to differentiate from these existing services.
 
According to the article, in terms of common all-you-can-read services, the operating companies distribute usage fees to each publisher in according to the number of views. However, as for Amazon Unlimited, the article states that Amazon Japan pays each publisher with the same usage fee as the common sales fee of eBooks, with several conditions applied.
 
As a result of the report that Amazon plans to launch an all-you-can-read service of eBooks, it turns out that one-quarter of those who were not interested in using eBook until now have become interested in them.
Amazon Japan has a large amount of consumers and has a high consumer awareness. When Amazon Japan enters into the “all-you-can-read service”, it is expected that the service might become widely known to the public and lead to an expansion of eBook market.
